About Ever17:
(partially from Wikipedia, beware of spoilers)

Ever17 -the out of infinity- is a Japanese science fiction visual novel produced by KID, originally released on August 29, 2002 for the Playstation 2 and Dreamcast. A Windows version, Ever17 -the out of infinity- Premium Edition, was released on May 16, 2003. In December 2005, Hirameki International released an English edition of the PC version in the United States.

The game tells the story of a group of people who are trapped in an underwater theme park and their struggle to escape.

I am not going to copy the whole article here, you can easily follow the link above to read it yourself. Now for some personal opinions on Ever17.

It has easily one of the most brilliant stories I've seen in amy form of media. In fact, it's the story that makes it worth suffering the rather bad English of the official translation. If you survive the lack of Quality Assurance on Hirameki's side, though, you are bound to love this visual novel for the rest of your life. The full story is almost impossible to figure out even after finishing the four initial routes. Even if you can guess some things, the whole truth is still a surprise. It's also quite interesting to realize that you're basically playing yourself, not one of the characters you see. The final twists made me also realize that this story can really only be accomplished through this particular medium. While many visual novels have also seen anime adaptations, in this case it would be impossible without giving out major plot points - after all, you'll find out that one of the most important tricks in this visual novel is the fact that you don't actually see the face of the character you're playing.
